Wild About Cornwall looks at the best places to go to experience the natural history of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. It includes some 40 locations around the county, featuring well-known spots such as Kynance, and some much less well known, such as the arable fields of Boscregan Farm near Land’s End. Locations have been chosen to offer a chance not just to see but to experience the county’s best wildlife in some stunning locations. Whether your interest is in plants, birds, insects, mammals, amphibians or reptiles there is something here for you. Wild About Cornwall is not only a practical guide, giving details of access, contacts and species to be seen, but an attractive book, enhanced by David’s delightful text and packed with his stunning photographs (he has been saving his best for this!). In writing the book, David draws upon his own experience of visiting the sites, and interviewing landowners, wardens of nature reserves, and a range of people in various conservation groups. As well as guiding us around the sites, he tells about the history of the chosen locations, and gives tips on how to spot the wildlife there. Highlighted species are chosen for particular locations and described in greater detail, giving interesting background to their behaviour, folklore and, where appropriate, conservation. This is not only a valuable reference book for people wishing to experience Cornish wildlife, but also a wonderful showcase for those who simply wish to sit back and enjoy the natural wonders of the county from the comfort of their armchairs.
